Experiencing slow speeds with Just My Socks? This guide will help you optimize your connection for the best possible performance.
Quick Speed Checks
Before diving into optimization:
1. Test Your Base Speed
Without proxy:
- Disconnect Just My Socks
- Run a speed test at speedtest.net
- Note your download/upload speeds
With proxy:
- Connect to Just My Socks
- Run the same speed test
- Compare the results
If your base speed is already slow, the proxy can’t magically make it faster.
Optimization Tips
1. Choose the Right Node
For users in China:
- LA (Los Angeles) nodes - Lowest latency for most regions
- Choose nodes with latency < 150ms
How to test:
- In Clash, click the ⚡ icon to test all nodes
- Select the node with lowest latency
- If latency is similar, try different nodes for actual speed
2. Select Optimal Protocol
Just My Socks supports multiple protocols:
| Protocol | Speed | Stability | Use Case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadowsocks | ⚡⚡⚡ | ⚡⚡⚡ | Best for most users |
| V2Ray (VMess) | ⚡⚡ | ⚡⚡⚡ | Better obfuscation |
Recommendation: Start with Shadowsocks subscription, switch to V2Ray if blocked.
3. Avoid Peak Hours
Peak hours (China time):
- Weekdays: 8 PM - 11 PM
- Weekends: All day can be slower
Tips:
- Schedule downloads/updates during off-peak
- If possible, use during mornings or late night
4. Optimize DNS
Recommended DNS servers:
8.8.8.8(Google)1.1.1.1(Cloudflare)
How to set DNS (Windows):
- Control Panel → Network Connections
- Right-click network → Properties
- IPv4 → Properties
- Set DNS to
8.8.8.8
5. Enable TUN Mode (Advanced)
TUN mode routes all traffic through proxy, may improve speeds for some apps:
Clash for Windows:
- General → TUN Mode → Manage
- Install TUN driver
- Enable TUN Mode
⚠️ Note: TUN mode may conflict with some software.
Plan Upgrade Options
If you’ve optimized everything but still need more speed:
| Plan | Bandwidth | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| LA 500 | 2.5 Gbps | Light use |
| LA 1000 | 5 Gbps | Daily use |
| HK IPLC | Dedicated | Lowest latency |
HK IPLC plans offer:
- 10-30ms ultra-low latency
- Unaffected by peak hours
- Best for gaming, video calls
Speed Test Results (Reference)
Test Environment:
- Location: China (Beijing)
- Base speed: 500 Mbps
- Plan: LA 1000
Results:
| Time | YouTube 4K | Download Speed |
|---|---|---|
| Off-peak | Instant load | 45-50 MB/s |
| Peak hours | 2-3s buffer | 20-30 MB/s |
